Ants forage fast and short
down the shower door,
caught intermittently
on oddities and pheromones;
or grubs chew
in time-lapse through
starchy condensation.
There are millions of spider eggs
amongst dustings of pollen.
Eyes bead in spittle-foam form.
The pattern evaporates now to bark
and slivered microscope slides
of bacterial mosaic,
now to estuaries in death-sigh-sizzled
evaporation,
finally to silk
and drooping Tasmanian devil
face tumours.
Later,
the water droplets
on the door
of the shower
in my bathroom
are sparse,
like something in nature;
take your pick.
